Mr. Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission, visited on 7 November, the “Konstantinos Michalos” Entrepreneurship Center and The Athens Startup Business Incubator, where the greek Support Center of the Gazelle Project is hosted, in view of the European Year of Skills 2023. Mr. Schinas discussed with startuppers about the need to develop skills in the European Union, as the green and digital transition create new opportunities for citizens and the economy of the Union.

The Vice-President of the European Commission stressed that never before in the history of the European Union have there been so many possibilities to fund actions in the digital sector. “I calculate with a realistic, I would say, calculation, that funding from all the actions for social cohesion, employment and skills from these two sources, the Recovery Fund and the NSRF, can reach the dizzying amount of 10 billion euros. Concluding his speech, Mr. Schinas stressed that upskilling – reskilling is the demand of the time. This “skills revolution” must be done in a way that mainly concerns those who do not have all the opportunities they need.
